brought home roo and pullet helllppp!!!!

well my husband walks in with a 8 month old wht silkie roo and pullet, well we have no coop set up yet, all i have is a cage 27"x20"x20" cage?????? can i keep them in there till we get a some type of coop up by this weekend. not that i don't have enough room i have a 6 acre horse farm but i also have dogs that are not used to being with chikens yet HELLLPP!

As long as you give them food and water and keep what ever you have them in clean they should be ok and they are not on jammed up on one another.......no more than a few days........

Do you have a empty horse stall that you could place some netting or wire up to make a temporary chicken pen? The dog cage would be ok for a few days but not any longer then that. Congrats on your new chickens.

No i only do run in's or that would be a perfect idea i think i will use 2 cages instead it is a rabbit cage but i think i will use another so they are more comfy and put them side by side. like every other furbaby here they will become spoiled bratts i just wish he would have waited till we were more prepared. but i apreciate input anyone would like to share THANK YOU!

Congratulations!!!!

I think putting them in separate cages will work better than putting them in one for now. That way they won't be pulling feathers out of each other from being caged & stressed. Keep them in the shade & out of any rain, with plenty of water & food, and safe from the dogs and they will be fine until you get something built for them.

Do you have an extra bathroom in the house? I've kept chickens in ours when necessary to separate them from the rest. I put newspaper on the floor. This way, they have lots of room to move about. Worked well for me!

Also if you plan on putting them in the wire cages, make sure you put some cardboard or something else down to cover the bottem so they aren't stepping on the wires. They don't like it not to mention the fact that it can cause permanent damage to their feet over a long extended time. What a wonderful surprise though.
