What would cause my brown egg layers to lay an off white (LIGHT tan) coloured egg?? The egg isnt even smooth, it is rough :( im assuming they are lacking something but i cant figure out what...
About two months ago i swiched them from layer to grower feed because i added additonal members that havnt layed yet witv oyster shell fed free choice (not sure if that matters for pigment)

I have 2 RIR that lay brown eggs. One chickens eggs shade is lighter than the others. They both eat the same , but maybe as they free range , one gets more of something in her diet. Then there are times when both eggs are same shade. It can possibly be the cat food that they raid when they have a chance.????? It may be the reason in my case.

lets see what others think.....

Could be heat stress or simply the rate they are laying... High temps can reduce the amount of pigment they produce, and if they are laying at a faster rate they have to spread that amount of pigment over more eggs... A lot of times you will see darker eggs in the spring after a winter slow down, lighter eggs in the summer and then darker again in the fall when they slow back down...
