Hi, I'm looking for some nice light brown leghorn chicks or hatching eggs. Anyone have any?

Most of the hatcheries "brown leghorns" are light browns.

If you want better than hatchery quality, then I would suggest joining the American Brown Leghorn Facebook page and ask there. Several people there ship eggs.

However, this is still a bit early in the year... Many breeders run their flocks combined all winter, and only AFTER the weather warms up, do they separate the flock into breeding pens.

I have noticed a very few on the breeder pages are just now starting to set up breeding groups... Mostly those in southern states.

Hi,  I'm looking for some nice light brown leghorn chicks or hatching eggs.  Anyone have any?

I have a setting of shipped eggs going right now. I got them from the Georgia Mad Hatcher- you can find them on fb or their website. I just wanted them for production so wasn't terribly concerned with SOP; not sure what you're looking for but there are a few pics of the flock on fb I believe. I can attest for the shipping and fertility. I received 13 eggs and it's looking good for getting 12 chicks!

One of my rose comb brown leghorns. I think I got them from Mcmurray hatchery.

@Eps32 that one is a light brown Leghorn.

I don't think any of the hatcheries sell dark brown.

I would HIGHLY recommend getting onto the Facebook Dark Briwn Leghorn page, and buying eggs from Fred Zillich.

He has the best RC dark brown I have ever seen. His are not all Homozygous for RC, so a single comb might pop up, but when
I hatched his eggs, I had I think only 3 or 4 cockerels, and with such a small group I still had one stellar RC rooster!

This one was the only single comb that hatched, gorgeous boy.

He might not have eggs to sell until a bit later in the year.

More pictures of his stock, the two below are still young, not yet full grown.

Another rooster, a bit older, more filled out. He looks super fat, but he wasn't, it is just the way he was sitting.

Fred Zillich's leghorns lay very well. I got RC whites from him, and RC dark browns (he has other colors too).

The whites are a bit more seasonal, the dark browns more year around steady.

The whites matured a bit faster than the dark browns.

The whites have eggs a tiny bit larger than the dark browns, but both lay a good sized egg, only a bit smaller than a production white Leghorn.

The dark browns are the most "predator aware" chickens I have ever had, super skittish, but they still consistently lay in the nest boxes.

I only very, VERY rarely let my chickens out to free range, since I have way too many predators, but I think his dark browns would be stellar free rangers.

I haven't had any medical issues with any of his stock.

So, they will not lay as well as production white Leghorns from a hatchery, and their eggs will be a bit smaller, BUT, they do lay very well, and unlike the production White Leghorns that I have gotten from hatcheries (who are prone to prolapse and vent gleet), I have had zero problems with the dark browns.

Also, the dark browns should be excellent free range foragers.
