Brown-red ameraucana

The Brown Red is pretty rare. You can visit the breeders page on the Ameraucana Breeders Club Website to contact those who have them. I am not currently offering hatching eggs as I have just started working on them myself but I may have hatching eggs available in the spring.

Adam,
I'm glad to see you are working on them. They are pretty, especially the hens. I almost wish I had a couple of them.

I have 2(had 10 but they were trashed by PO) in my bator now and was just curious. Lucky for me I am getting more sent to me next week, hopefully they fare better.

Thanks I am really excited, the choice between the Blue Wheatens and The Brown Reds was hard but I liked the idea of working with a color that needs some attention. I have been in contact with Rose Konold and she has been most helpful. My current eggs are from her. Depending on how these develop I will decide if I will seek out other Brown Reds to improve my flock in the spring or wait.

I am planning a trip to an Araucana breeder that is near me, Dick Dickerson to get some Wild Type BBR hens for a cross breeding project and I am hoping to grab a pair or trio of Buff Bantam Araucana from him and then I am at full capacity until I move.

Barbra Campbell sent me an e-mail about an Ameraucana Club meet at a show in Virgina. Did you get the e-mail? Are you thinking of going?

I wish I could go, but that's a little far for me. I'm just trying to get some one to get in touch with me about getting my birds NPIP so that I can hopefully try showing some of my lavenders when I get them up to a showable standard.

I am thinking of NPIP for myself as well but I am having a hard time finding th info for my area. I would love to see photos of your LF Lavender. I am hoping to show in the spring if I get a good hen or roo out of this batch. I don't expect to win anything but the experience will be fun.

Edited because I can't spell

I'll have to take recent pictures of them and post. Mostly I have bantam lavenders. I'm starting to work on the LF, I have two cockerels (from John Blehm), and am hatching split blackXlavender chicks today thanks to another member of this board, Shaffer.

I keep emailing the contact I found when I searched online for NPIP, but get no reply. I have to try and call them and see if I can get in touch with someone.

Sara,

Are your lavenders a bit on the small side too? I was thinking of putting mine in with some blacks this fall and starting from there, instead of breeding them together because of the size issue.

ETA: The chicks look pretty much like black ameraucana chicks, you cannot tell the difference until the feathers start to come in and they are that orangey color.

Jean,
Yep the lavenders are smaller than the blacks I got at the same time. I got some split eggs, lavender cock over black hens from Harry that are hatching today. I know these will be larger than my lavender cockerels, so hopefully I'll be able to up the size from them.
