Brown Red Mottled D’Uccles Project

Pics
I had to humanely euthanize one of the little chicks. When it was the incubator it acted kind of dumb, I assumed it was because it had just hatched, but as it got “older” it still acted dumb. When in the brooder it would just stand there, then when it tryed to walk it fell over to it’s side. It wouldn’t eat nor drink. I did give it sugar water but that didn’t help. It would just stand there with its eyes closed and shake or be laying on its side with another chick laying on it.

I’ve separated out my 3 project hens and my 2 newer best D’Uccles to breed next.

I’ll make sure to clean the incubator really good or a hen will sit on them and I’ll make sure not to have any geese eggs in the incubator.

I hope you guys don’t think I’m the worst chicken owner ever with the chicks dying. This batch of chicks has been my worst in my 4 years of being a chicken owner.

I think sometimes it just happens.. and it can be things outside of your control. :hugs hang in there!! Can't wait to see the next batch! I did like how consistent the coloring was.
