Hi!

I got my two BRs yesterday, and used the hints learned from all of you wonderful folks to try to get females (dark/not orangie-yellow legs and feet, and tight little head spots as opposed to more diffuse, spread out pattern).

What do you think?

Thoughts?

Well, I kinda hate to say it but I think the second one is a roo. The first one, iffy but the spot is smaller and compact. I am not an expert at all so those are just guesses, maybe someone else with more experience thinks differently. I learned from speckledhen on here that the head spot must be almost nothing or very compact, not spread out or splotchy and the legs should be mostly black up the front. My first BR (who turned out to be a roo) looked like your second one and my first one had a smaller (almost nothing) head spot and she is a pullet.

I have to say though that I really love my BR. She is the sweetest little bird.

Good luck and keep us posted! They are very cute!

My three BR pullets that are now 13 wks had a smaller spot on their heads then your new ones.

I LOVE my BR's. They are the friendliest, most outgoing, not affraid to jump right in to see what I'm doing. Fly up on my lap, back, arms. Get along with all the others, etc.

I hope you enjoy them and they are indeed pullets.

gEEZ..wish I should have checked with you all. I had 11 out of 20 that were roos. I still have 8 hens and 8 roos. I am keeping only one roo maybe two and the others? well...Sandwich, chickennoodle, chickendumplins, etc.

My daughter was wondering if it was just our BR or if all BR's were as friendly and loving. Our little Ava loves to be held, is the only chicken that will not run away when we take her out of the run, loves to kiss and be kissed, etc etc. I think I need some more BR's...wonder if the feed store got any in today

Yeah-but compared to the others, this had a tight spot and dark feet. Most of the others had almost all grey/white heads and bright orange/yellow legs.

Here's a better pic of their heads;

If I end up with another roo I'm gonna freak.

I'm trying to figure out what my BRs are and they pretty much look like the one on the left. I've been reading a lot of threads about this and looked at pictures and from what I can tell, the one on the right is most likely a pullet.

(Edited out "definitely"-I don't want anyone to be mad at me if I'm wrong)

Well - I'm at work and don't have many pics of when they were a few days old that show the top of their heads so you can see the white spot. All I know is the white spot was just one small circle of white with no bleeding or blending into the rest of the head.

They grow up so fast but it seems I remember that their legs and feet were yellowish/orange with the gray down the front as they aged and their feet got HUGE. I remember they would step all over their long toes because they grew so fast they didn't get used to them. It was like they woke up one day with clown shoes on. Very funny to watch.

Anyway - let me find some pics that show head spots. The first two pics don't show any up close spots and they are under a red heat lamp. I'll look on home PC for more pics.

I this pic - the BR up front left you can barely see a solid small spot - no shading out

This is someone elses photo that shows the shading of the BR on the right that is a roo

This doesn't help much now - this was at 5.5 wks old - shows the combs, barring, and legs.
