Hi all. I have been dealing with a very sad duck with a leg injury. I was able to get some amoxicillin, that was sold for veterinary purposes... but is clearly actually the bubblegum amoxicillin they give to kids! I am not sure what makes the bubblegum flavor, but would this still be suitable for me to give to a duck, or is this a terrible idea?

Go for it! I don't know dosage for ducks, for chickens it's 250 mg twice a day for 7 to 10 days. You'll want offer yogurt with live cultures during the treatment to restore gut flora.

The bubblegum flavoring is not a problem, but what does the label say? Is this the 50mg per ml strength? That would be a lot of volume to give the duck. Dosage can range from 125-250 mg orally twice a day (every 12 hours,) and some use 57 mg per pound. What does the leg look like? Is a vet possible where you could get an appropriate antibiotic easier to give?

Yes, that is an excellent point about volume for a 10lb duck, it would be like 5ml... I am considering a vet visit if it doesn't improve. It is a Pekin with a lot of leg issues which I know aren't necessarily fixable given the breed -- I have another post with pics in this thread, but wanted the specific bubblegum question answered so I started this thread too. Not even sure if I am going to do the antibiotics but wanted to know the ones I had were safe.
