Still trying to solve the rescued hen issue. Both eyes are bubbling now. She occasionally violently shakes her head. She then scratches her nose so hard she bleeds. What gives?

Is there a strong ammonia odor in your coop that could irritate the eyes? Mycoplasma gallisepticum can cause foamy eyes, and if there are mucus plugs in the sinuses and airway, they will shake the heads to dislodge the plugs. MG is a chronic respiratory disease that can't be cured. Antibiotics such as Tylan50 injections, Tylan Powder, Gallimycin, or oxytetracycline in the water may relieve symptoms. The flock can all become carriers. Here is a link to this and other reaspiratory diseases to read and compare symptoms: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

No ammonia smell. I have antibiotics, I'll start tomorrow. Thanks

You might want to get your chicken tested just to make sure it has MG or whatever. That way if you would ever get new birds, you would know whether or not to vaccinate. MG can be transmitted in hatching eggs, so I would close my flock--no birds in, none out.
