One of our hens, a Rhode Island Red named Scarlett, has gotten a swollen, watery (almost bubbly) eye. The other eye is bubbly as well, but not really swollen. She seemed to be getting along ok today but definitely seemed a bit less active. Tonight, when I went out to check on her, she was on her roost and she seemed to be almost wheezing at times. Any idea what this could be? I'm really hoping it's not contagious. I have chickens that will be shown in a couple of months and don't want them to get anything. What should I do? Quarantine Scarlett? Treat all the chickens with some kind of antibiotic? Any help is greatlyappreciated. I have attached pics of how her eye currently looks. In this one (it is a bit blurry I think) her eye is open but as you can see, it is swollen. There is bubbly, watery, liquid in her eye.

In this one, her eyes are shut but it still appears to be swollen.

it looks like an infection, has she got a gunky runny nose? you will need antibiotics for her and to separate her and treat all of your hens for it. you will also need to try keep the sinuses clear and check the underside of her beak ( in her mouth) chances are it will be gunked up.

You should not show chickens that have had symptoms of a respiratory disease. This can be symptoms of MG, Coryza, ILT and others. Antibiotics such as Tylan may reduce symptoms, but not cure the disease. All chickens exposed may become carriers. She should be separated as far from the others, and use strict biosecurity when going between her and the others. Here is some reading:
