I have a debeaked pullet. She is so sweet, I have worked very hard to have her be friendly with me, and the oatmeal surprise mush did it! She jumps on my leg for it. It's one of the best parts of my day when I can see her happy.

im really happy you didn't kill him...and hes very nice looking..(handsome)...lol

I think my girl Lola has the second type. She was fine up until she was a few weeks old, and then it suddenly showed up one day. I'd had a few before her that didn't make it, but she's over a year old now and a little piglet! She learned early on to jump into the top of the feeder so she could get her beak down into the food, and will jump into the scratch bucket when I go in the pen. I think she weighs more than most of my other layers.

I have a silkie roo that has the same issue. His developed gradually as he aged from several weeks onward. He is healthy and apparently happy. He chases the pullets around and is usually successful grabbing them and hanging on. He is able to eat enough to keep a good weight. He is about 6 months old now.
Cheers,
Terry

Very handsome guy you got there. Looks like he is doing ok for himself. I had a little d'uccle hen that was cross beak. It was just her upper. I would take her to the vet about once a month & they would trim it. She had no problems at all eating out of the hanging feeder. I think the handicaped ones worm their way into our hearts because we spend so much extra time with them and get to know them a little better than those who are not.
