bucket of beets ok to eat?

I have been growing beets inside my house in a container for about a month. It was really just an experiment to see if they would grow. Well, they did and now I want to put the container in with my chickens for them to peck on and eat and then sit in the container and dig around. I have three hens and three plants. I just want to know if its safe for them to eat?

I can tell you that mine like to eat beet greens, found that out the hard way! LOL!
