i just realized that my "country" flock only costs about 30 cents a day to feed. the flock has about 25 chickens!
the only input we buy is corn, they get about a cup a day. the run includes our compost area, which gets waste from 3 restaurants and all of our farm waste (animal bedding, grass clippings, and veg garden waste). we harvest about 40 kilos of veggies a week, so they get all of the damaged bits and stems and such. and they get 50 kilos of spent beer grain a month.....
the chickens are all happy/healthy with a pretty good egg production, we get 10 or so eggs/day.
