I was wondering at what age do buff brahma bantams generally lay? Do they lay at the same age as brahmas or do they lay earlier/later because they are bantams. Also would two buff brahma bantams of the same age start laying around the same time or could they lay some time apart.
Thanks! :)

Generally they start between 6-8 months. Every one is a bit different but related hens should be similar.
I think my buff brahma bantam is probably laying and she 18 weeks old, however, she is from a hatchery if that makes a difference. Do you think it is unhealthy or unusual?

It's unusual from my experiences with the breed but every hen is different, and things like feeding and breeding can affect the start of laying.

How do you like your girls? Can you see any difference in friendliness? My Brahmas are very docile, very easy to handle, but they are not friendly. I'm possibly interested in bantam dark Brahmas. With chickens like bantam Brahmas, I don't have any need for LF for eggs. Those little girls are the stinkin' bomb for eggs!

I like my dark brahma a lot (all mine are standard size). She's very docile, and has been since we got her. My light... her name is Whitey, and I sometimes call her Whitey Bulger. She's mean to the other girls, freaks out when we go in the run (I swear she's screaming 'The Fuzz!'). The buff (Buffy) is somewhere in the middle, closer to the dark. I'm hoping once Whitey starts laying she'll calm down some.

Thanks. I had a terribly mean Brahma pullet that I rehomed at 10 months. She was so vicious to the others, and one of the others joined her in abusing the two most docile girls. When I got rid of her, the two who had been bullied put the accomplice in her place but good. In my experience with my mean Brahma, she only got worse as she matured. By the time she had been laying a month, the two who were bullied were hiding in a nest box all the time. I went unimaginative in naming my Wyandottes, but the Brahmas sound like a law firm - Punkin', Dumplin' and Pearl.:)

Good luck.

Since this was liked and my attention was brought back to it.... I wanted to update you to say that my light brahma has calmed considerably. She's one of the sweetest, and still one of the more dominant.
