Buff Brahmas

I just got three buff Brahmas from Ideal. All three are shaded very differently and one is significantly darker than the rest.

Does anyone have Buff Brahma chick pics to share?

you sometimes can expect that. I ve ordered from ideal. Usally its because the eggs come from different farms that are JUST hatched at the hatchery ... The birds i got from ideal are not even close to show quaility... They are"quanity not quality"..

Here are some pics of my Caroline, who is now 2 yrs old. She is from Ideal. I agree, not great quality. She has very little foot feathering and is fairly small for a Brahma. My Lt. Brahma is much larger with better foot feathering, and she is also from Ideal. They vary a bit in coloring as chicks, it seems-some darker, some a bit lighter.

Caroline is very cute! Mine already have very fuzzy legs and feet, but I don't know if that is a good indicator of what they'll look like when they're older.

They also seem much heavier already than the SFs that are the same age. One, the darker one, is the biggest and the sweetest, although I'm already worried that it's acting a tiny bit rooish (is that possible for a week old chick?) I hope not since they're sexed pullets...

Yours wont get really anymore foot feathering than they have now. If it's thick/dense as babies, it will be that way as adults. It's possible they made a mistake sexing. I also had another Lt. Brahma with these. Her name was Bess. We had to change it to Bart, LOL. Sexed pullet that wasn't. Yep, sexing is more an art than a science, so there are quite a few mistakes.

All my brahmas are from Ideal and since I'm not interested in breeding, I think they are perfect for a backyard flock. Extremely hardy.
All of my buff brahma hens looked alot like Speckled's Caroline did as a chick and four of them are colored similiar to Caroline as adults. Two of them have the black lacing on their feathers, which I recently found out can happen with the buffs. I consider those two to be the prettiest. Out of the three colors my buffs are definitely the sweetest and most unassuming. My lights try to boss me around. They're pretty good at it too.

My darks are the most standoffish. They're maturing slower as well.
As far as the foot feathering goes, they all have a good amount, with the darks having the most and it's alot.

Oh! and I ordered two cockerels, got five. Like Speckled said, it's more of an art than a science and Ideal does tell ya upfront that sexing is only 90% accurate.
