I have twenty 10 week old Buff Chanteclers. Several look like pictures 1,2 and 3 and several look like pictures 4 and 5. The first ones are a bit larger than the last two. I am assuming that pictures 1,2 and 3 is a cockerel and 4 and 5 is a pullet. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!
1,2,3 are redder faced, especially around the eyes, which could indicate male. 4, 5 aren't red around the eyes, but the comb looks almost the same as 1,2,3, so that's a little confusing.
It looks like in pic 3 that there may be some saddle shininess. That's a male indicator.
What do the wattles look like? They're so small on Chanteclers, but males are redder.
What about the legs? The males legs will usually be thicker and sometimes the spurs are more prominent earlier on the fellas.
All five photos look very much alike. I saw this question a few days ago and I thought you might have a few answers by now. Maybe this bump will get this thread a few more responses.
