so, from what I can tell, the hens and roosters look fairly similar in this breed but I am really thinking we have a rooster on our hands. he/she is four months old and seems to be sporting a much more red color in the waddle and possible saddle and Heckel feathers. I'm not sure if the more pointed feathers near the tail is normal for this breed or not though. Also not sure if in the second photo if the feathers on its neck look like heckel feathers or just my imagination. Help.

Cockerel. Polish are difficult to sex, but will have typical male/female characteristics. Specifically, male vs female specific saddle feathers. See below.

I do have a rooster I raised and I THOUGHT I knew what to look for. lol but I also never owned a polish. ha. its saddle feathers DO look long and not rounded though :/

It's my son's chicken but we do not hand tame our roosters. I feel it helps them protect the girls better. (and as long as we leave them alone and don't show cause of threat, they seem to leave us alone.... for the most part). We DO need a rooster for our pullets as we free-range our chickens. But my son is going to be very sad that Daisy is NOT a Daisy
