Buff orp pullet or roo? Help please!!!

all the posts here are not entirely true all chickens grow at different rates as do humans i think its a hen not a rooster but the only way you can make sure is to vent sex them and the comb size has nothing to do with the gender soorry

Since he is only about 5 weeks I would say that you have a cockerel. Its good to hear your keeping him

With Orpingtons it is really hard to tell. I have a hen that looks just like that at that age. I was sure she was a boy because, her come was so much bigger then everyone elses. Well at 6 months she was my first layer. So if I were you I would just hold tight and see if he roo. Honestly I think that is the only way to know with an Orpington, well other then having someone to check its vent. My hen with the large comb ended up being my first and best layer. I think the size of the comb has something to do with the hormone that causes, them to lay.

Good luck,
Michelle:P

Congratualations it's a boy! however I have an Orp roo and he was handled since day one!!! He is amazing head of the coop! Really takes care of his girls (once he got past his awkward teenage stage). Always lets them eat first & will drop food in front of them. Always make sure his eyes are on them at all times. I actually have one hen that will stick her head under his belly and they just stand there like that!

My buff orp roo is wonderful. And beautiful. He will be a sweet and loyal roo for your girls I bet.
