Hi all,

I've some mix breeds 1 Americana, 1 RIR, 2 BRs, 1 Black Star, and recently boughts 3 Buff Orphingtons,
they usually get picked by everybody else, they are around 22 weeks old, and I just saw today one of them has been badly hurt neck, looks like the feathers are brutally un-plucked from one side (below head) neck area; I can see meat and feather around it in blood, when I move the feathers on that area.

Is it really some bad behavior in the chickens? can it be that bad.

Thanks

I bet you money its your RIR. But yes Ive had chickens kill each other before. You need to isolate it ASAP. Because now that he is weakened anyone trying to assert dominance will only be encouraged. What I would do it isolate the hurt chicken in a pen where he can be safe but visible to the other chickens. So that way they can sort of get used to each other while not hurting one another. Did you just introduce this one? Or did you recently remove a chicken? Please tell me more.
