buff orpington acting wierd pleas help

i have a buff orpington who has been acting strangely for the last week or so. The hen has been up in a nesting box almost constantly. She has been making low clucking sounds and puffing up all her feathers when ever i go in or near the coop. I don't think she's egg bound: She's been able to pass fecal matter and doesn't have any blood, puss or as far as i can tell swelling around her vent.

Buff orpingtons aren't brooders are they? Could she be ill? Any thoughts on what I should do?

Yes, your lovely lady has gone broody. She wants to raise a family.



If you have ever thought about hatching chicks, now is the time to get some fertile eggs (if you do not have a roo) and let her incubate them.

Also, she hasn't been laying very much lately. usually she give 1 a day. Does that still make sense if she's broody?

Yup, a broody will not lay while broody and then for at least the first 3 to 6 weeks after her chicks have hatched.
