Okay, it's all your fault. I was warned when I started posting on BYC that there were people who were chicken enablers on here and I am afraid I have fallen victim. I started out with 20 Black Australorp chicks, but one died last night. At 12:00 noon, I became the proud owner of 3 Buff Orpington chicks and 3 Barred Rock chicks. The Buffs were for me and the Barred Rocks I can blame on my wife. I surely hope they are all pullets. No pictures at the moment, but all 2 of the Buffs and 2 of the Barred Rocks have a very good start on tail and wing feathers, so I hope they are pullets. The other two are smaller, so we will have to wait and see. I got to stop buying these critters or we will have to move.

Adorable!!! You will love your Barred Rocks, they are by far my sweetest chickens.

Wish I could say the same for my Australorps, lol. Hopefully you have better luck with yours.

Thanks, CowgirlPenny. I don't know much about the different breeds, although I have had Buff Orpingtons in the past, as well as White Leghorns. I hope the Black Australorps don't turn out to be the devil incarnate. What kind of trouble have you had with yours?

They are just very standoffish. They were semi friendly as chicks but as pullets they wont EVER let me touch them. If I need to wrangle up the chicks I know I can easily pick up or catch the others, but it's always the Australorps last. They are timid and kind of flighty. Seems to be common from other BA owners on here, although a few people swear their's are friendly. They are also the ones who start the spats between the other chicks. They stand a good two inches over the others, so I think they believe they are the bosses. LOL

Well, here's to hoping mine all get salvation before they are all grown up.
