Hello, we have buff Orpington with an eye issue. We thought perhaps a flea issue so we isolated her and mixed DE and sand to kill them. There was an issue with her wing, not sure what exactly. It was fixed with a few sprays of Vetericyn. We have been spraying Vetericyn on the eye as well, angling it away from her nostrils. She is eating well and drinking fine. She has sav a chick electrolytes in her water. We have 2 other buffs that are not diseased or sick and no fleas either. All 3 were together until 3 days ago when we separated her. I think there is a bully that was hurting this buff. We lost 2 other coco merengue chicks, one to a snake and one to we think the bully. Do you have any suggestions on how to help this little chick’s eye get healed properly?

We are not sure what to do with the bully. It has a buff “friend” that seems to be in submission to it. They get along ok but this one here must have stood up for herself. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you in advance.
Ruthie

Usually with a injured eye, I would recommend flushing the eye twice a day with saline or eye wash. Clean out any gunk. Then apply a small dab of Terramycin eye ointment (or plain neosporin if the first is not available,) for a week or so until the eye looks better. Make sure that she can see her food and water. If your coop is large enough for a medium dog crate, I would separate the bully with food and water for a week. If not enough room, put her somewhere else to lower her place in the pecking order.
