I love me some buffs!
Reasons why I like them and why the haters should as well,
Buff hater here :)
To explain why they are ugly in my eyes..
-Cute lil faces,
Pretty much all chickens have cute faces. Why not get one with a cute color and actual fluff?
-Great personalities,
Can't argue with this since it depends on the individual. Though the color does not effect that.
-Reliable layers, (at least my gals are)
For egg production there are many other and prettier (IMO) breeds that lay even better than Orpingtons. But again, the color buff doesn't effect laying either.
-SPLENDID mothers!
-Fluffy butts
I'm sorry but I see no fluff here 😭

Of course these are your average American hatchery quality buff Orpingtons.
This however, an English Orpington is very fluffy and I can look past the color.

If I want something fluffy though I'd rather just get Cochins, since finding a true English Orpington breeder isn't that easy.
-Decent meat birds.
That's the thing, they're just decent when it comes to most everything. All the good things about them can be found in much better looker birds. And the Buff color doesn't add to any of those pros.

This is all just my personal opinion, nothing against Orpingtons as a breed, I just think they're over-rated (hatchery quality especially) and the color Buff looks like barf and that's not a good look 🤷‍♀️

You have your reasons and I will respect that!
And, I can somewhat agree on the hatchery/English argument. Yes, English Buffies, or a high quality hatchery Buffy is certainly going to be prettier than an Orscheln’s chick bin baby. And there are some BUTT-UGLY Buffs out there.

I will admit I am bias towards peachy-colored critters. I just like the color.

Also, would you mind listing some of the prettier, better-than-Buff layers? I’m looking into getting some more chickies, and I’m all ears for good breeds!

*Also I‘ve never heard of Dong Tao chickens before, so I looked them up and I think I need to bleach my eyes. Why in the world would anyone want one of those nasty mutated cellulitis monstrosities!? :sick
