Ahem........My list of why Buff Orpingtons are amazing! I have kept a Buff Orpington named Daisy for several years. If you are one of my BYC friends, you should already know by now lol. Here is my list....
  1. Super Friendly!- They are the friendliest chicken breed I know! Especially my Daisy.
  2. Eggs- Buff Orpingtons are great layers, my Daisy sometimes layed 2 eggs in one day! Not to mention some double yolkers!
  3. Good with kids.- All the orpingtons I've ever seen are good with even small children like toddlers. Daisy was never really around any children. I'm sure she would be great with them.
  4. Docile- Super calm. It's rare that they seem to pick fights often.
  5. Good meat birds- Buff orpingtons can be good meat birds if you fatten them up enough. ( Not that I would EVER suggest that.)
  6. FLUFFY!!!! There's plenty of fluffy chickens out there, but my all time favorite is the Buff Orpington. Super fluffy....
  7. GOLDEN. Buff Orpingtons are a yellowish to Golden color on the outside and they have fluffy little whitish feathers on the inner side if you look up under some feathers. Who doesn't want a golden chicken? 24 Karat Magic in the cooooop....
Yeah! I described them as ‘if a Twinkie was a chicken’!! 😊
  1. Not as ugly when molting- If you own leghorns, (Like me) you know how ugly they can be when molting. If you haven't seen a molting leghorn, consider yourself lucky. Kinda ugly....But Buff Orpingtons have lots of fluffy feathers and are way fluffier than the average leghorn. So they loose a little more feather at a time and the new feathers come in without the chicken becoming as bald. They don't look super pretty, but not as ugly when molting.
  2. Great mothers!- These fluffy friends are great protective mama's for chicks! My Daisy even was a perfect mama to a little quail chick of mine! They make great egg incubators!
  3. Great Best friends! If you have not heard Daisy's story, you must not know me well. If you get a little Buff Orpington chick, love and care for her, give her love, and when she's older, give her healthy treats from your palm, pet her and hug her every day, well you've just made yourself a new best friend! I can't convince everyone since everyone has their own opinion, but that's okay! I love Buff Orpingtons and nothing will change that! The decision is now up to you.

I agree on them being prettier- but BOs still aren’t ugly. I still don’t know why people think they are.. I mean, if I think of the color ‘buff’ as gold or yellow, they look pretty to me.
Even then, it’s not all in the looks, it’s more in the personality.
