There needs to be a “ meh” button. I’m neutral! Buffs have pros and cons. Shall I list some?

Pros-
Sweet and friendly
Cute booties
All around good for many purposes
( mine have also NEVER ONCE gone broody which is nice and gives them points)

Cons-
Not great layers
Very loud
Boring color and personality
Just such meh birds in my opinion. I wouldn’t mind not having them but I also don’t mind having them that’s my 2 cents.

I say that puts you on the no side. I love every other color of orpington, which has the same pros as the ones you listed, but without the cons of the ugly color.

The color has nothing to do with the amount of fluff.
However, the American hatchery quality Orpingtons that you all love have zero fluff.

Hatchery quality Cochins have much more fluff than that. And better personalites in my experience.
Your beloved American orpingtons look more like leghorns than actual English Orpingtons.

I love my Buff Orpingtons. I have 4 in a flock of 40. 1 rooster and 3 hens. All 2 years old.

My boy started crowing at 4 1/2 weeks. There's a video post somewhere here. He been a sweet boy and protector from the start. He tibbits, breaks up fights, dances, helps nest and protects. If a girl hatches chicks he protects them too. Often I will find young ones hiding under his wing when roosting. He's always polite when I am in the coop and will often perch next to me when I sit outside. If I need to move him from the perch, I just offer my hand and on he steps. I wouldn't trade him for anything.

The girls are as sweet as sweet can be. One has gone broody 4 times in 2 years. She's tiny but mighty. If I need to check her eggs or to see if any have hatched, all I do is ask to see if she has babies and up she stands. I can take out eggs to candle or hatched chicks or discarded shells and she doesn't complain. She's my little Cindy-lou Who. A keeper.

These birds are the most polite of my flock--they really are the golden retrievers of chickens.
