I have a 4 yr old BO hen whose foot has turned pink... Notice that it is only one foot? The other foot looks relatively normal. She isn't limping and does not seem like it is bothering her. She has been tucking the non-pink foot into her feathers like her foot is cold.

Also, I have seen both her feet do this from time to time when it is cold and rainy from the time she was 4 or 5 months old. I assumed it was simply a cold response? Although today it is about 53 degrees so not terribly cold.

Anyone else ever seen your chickens do this?

My chickens feet have actually done this today. I suspect it is increased bloodflow, same as your nose turning pink in the cold :P

I would monitor but not worry.

Buff orpingtons have white skin, and the pink streaking can be a sign of fertility. Is the circulation in the other leg normal?

Yes, I think so. I didn't pick her up but observed her for 10-15 minutes or so. Other than acting like her right foot was cold and pulling it up to tuck into her feathers, she seemed fine. The foot that was neon pink was her left foot. I've seen both feet turn pink before but never so bright and never one foot but not the other.

Just thought it was weird?

Could she have something wrapped around the leg or frostbite affecting it?

I didn't see anything wrapped around her leg. She didn't have a limp or anything either... I watched her for at least 10 minutes. She seemed absolutely fine other than having a neon pink foot.

As for frostbite, it is unlikely. it was in the mid 50s today. It hasn't dipped below freezing in a week. I haven't noticed it before today.
