This is our 12-week-old BO, Rosie. She has always been bigger than our other four pullets (all of different breeds, no other BOs), and more aggressive. We just thought she was establishing herself as the mother hen or alpha chicken, chasing the other hens around. And then today she crowed. I have read some other posts on here about determining gender, and I did some research, but I am still unsure. Apparently all BOs crow from time to time, and they get big as they fully feather. However, if she IS a he, we have to return her to the farm, which would break my son's heart, since we already had to exchange another hen, but we aren't allowed roosters in my city. I have tried to look closely at her hackle feathers, but is it too soon to tell if they're pointed? Her saddle feathers also appear rounded to me. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!
