*Buff Orpington Thread!*

I now have 2 hens sitting. 1 has been sitting on eggs since around about the 26 of March. I checked the eggs for fertility 2 days ago and all looks well.

Hopefully in about 12 days I will have babies

The other hens just started sitting about 2 days ago.

1 other is starting to show signs of being broody and has been hanging out in the dark by her self guarding a nest box. And likes to bite me

They all started showing signs of being broody after I blacked out the coop. I like knowing that they will sit but I only have 5 nest boxes. Poor girls will be laying eggs on the floor.

Also I have a hen that lays 2 eggs at a time. 1 hard shelled and 1 leather shelled. Has any one ever seen this? Also she only lays1 maybe 2 times at most a week.

Just wanted to say goodbye for a while. I've had the shock of my life. I'm getting ready to have open heart surgery. I'm in the hospital this very moment. Surgery on Monday. Evidently I had a small heart attack and didn't know it. This is a really bad time as my neighbor presented me 4 more buffs Wednesday. Have to keep the older chicks and the little ones separate. Won't be able to put out a garden or my flowers this year. So upset

Gonna miss some of the growing up of my babies. My bigger ones outside won't be getting out to free range for a while because there are several large dogs roaming the area. Afraid to let them out. Pour girls, they loved it so.

Oh yes, I took two buffs back to the feed store and exchanged them for 2 Golden Sex Links. Mix it up a little. Anyway, signing off for about a week.

Sorry to hear that you are having to go through surgery. It will take a lot out of you for a bit but you will bounce back and it's good that you are taking care of it!! I hope the doctor doesn't say you can't eat eggs! Oh well, your babies will be waiting for you. You just gotta get through it one step at a time.

Just a comment on the chick exchange. I'm surprised they would take chicks back. Well, not surprised but actually irritated and appalled that they would do something so reckless. I think that is a HUGE mistake to do so for any feed store and a danger to their other customers, not necessarily in your case, but in general. If someone put their new chicks in with sick chicks, then took them back and the store exchanged them and put the newly exposed chicks in the bin with the others and some unsuspecting person bought them and took them home, they risk exposing their entire flock to a new disease. That is truly bad business and should not be allowed, period.

Very sorry to hear, saying prayers for you. Time to take it easy for awhile. May I ask how did you figure out you had the heart attack?

Will be praying for a successful surgery and a quick recovery. You will be amazed at how well you feel when it is all said and done.

Bella's mother is starting to go broody again. It's a pain because im going to have to buy eggs if she does because I still feel unsure about my cockerels behaviour so I don't want to breed from him yet. Will see if anyone close to me can give me some mixed eggs or something as I only want 2 eggs.

Johnn, where are you located? You don't have your location in your avatar area. We can't know if we're close to where you live if you don't do that.

If you want to put eggs under a broody and make sure she has something to raise, I'd give her more than two.
