I've got a two year old Buff hen named Squawky because she sits in the nesting box and yells at me every time I come near. She even pecked at me when I lifted her skirts to gather eggs today.

I need to get her a boyfriend! Hopefully one of the BO chicks I bought last week will be a roo.

Buff Orpingtons were recommended by none other than the wonderful author, Barbara Kingsolver. Her book, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle changed my life. I love my Buffs. They are prodigious layers, although they can be very broody for extended periods of time. I recently lost a broody hen to a feral cat because she refused to leave the nest. BTW, I am a suburban farmer: love this life!
