*Buff Orpington Thread!*

English columbian buff orpington and white delaware orpington F1 project chicks (two weeks old). Love how they are turning out. Just wanted to share. :)

Hello again. I was wondering if anyone knew about how long it takes Buff's to fully mature? If someone was kind enough to share, that would be great. I read that they took longer to mature than most chickens and i was wondering if anyone could confirm that from experience. Thanks!

Ours matured quickly and layed before every other breed we have. Which are Barred Rocks, Brahmas, Welsummers, Australorps, Easter Eggers and Cochins.

Our Buffs are the American type hatchery chicks and they started to lay at 23 weeks. They are now almost 11 months old, weigh between 6-6.5lbs and are still putting on weight but I am guessing they are getting close to topping out. I have had several people tell me that the English Orps mature more slowly and can take as long as 28 weeks before they start to lay but all in all I guess it depends upon the individual chicken.
