Thank you for letting me know how, I will try it out. I had seen the suet basket but they were cloth so I thought they might eat that?!?

Your chickens btw are gorgeous. Where did you get them??
Get a wire suet basket, you can find those at WalMart, Tractor Supply etc., they are in the wild bird food section.
Thank you, I like all my chickens. I ordered them as chicks from Meyer Hatchery. I've been pleased so far. They won't meet show standards for sure, but are so far healthy, lay beautiful eggs and are just a joy to have (Even Charlie

I am enjoying this Buff Orpington thread. I have a 12 week BO whom we call "Baby". She is very sweet and does not mind being held. She helps herself to my lap, arm, leg or back when I am in the run.

I am interested in the other colors available and wonder if they have similar personalities or is it just the Buff color that is so sweet and loving?
Would love to see some photos of her!

Thank you for all this great info! Going to go out and look this weekend. I showed my hubby your set up and he thinks your a genius too! Lol

I would have said yours were show. Is Charlie the buff in the picture? He is incredible! Yours have such colorful shiny feathers. The colors are really vibrant compared to many I have seen.

Yesterday my chickens lade there first eggs we got 2 eggs!! But today we looked every 3 howers. And we did not see any eggs today. Do you now why?

It takes weeks for their bodies to adjust to.laying so do not expect regular laying and you might even get a smaller than normal.egg or an egg without a shell. After a few weeks 3 to 4 they should be laying without any issues

This is hubby and our Buff Orpington, "Baby". I think she loves attention and the crickets. She is a sweetie.
She's a pretty girl

I'm not familiar with Buff Orpingtons having a collar of dark feathers, does she have feathered feet? Perhaps she has some Buff Brahma in her as well? Or maybe Buff Columbian?

My hubby came up with the idea. I just tell him what I want and he makes it happen.

Yes, Charlie is the BO in the photo, thank you, I do think he is handsome.

We are loving our first flock and I think we picked the perfect breed! So thankful for this thread! I've learned so much!!
Nice flock!!

Congratulations on the first eggs!
It takes time for new layers to work it all out.
A chicken lays an egg about every 28-30 hours, so a delay is not unusual.
Depending on your breed some may only lay a few times a week, while others will lay more.
