I only got one in my assortment of brown egg layers from McMurray. This is Claudia, she's my buddy and one of my favorites!

Love your chicken!

I'm just starting my research before getting my first babies in a year or two. I read some of your posts that they are pretty easily sexed at 6 weeks old. So far this is my favorite breed I've seen but I really want to order day old chicks. My zoning only allows 4 hens and 0 roosters... If I order them that young do you think it's likely I could end up with a boy?

McMurray hatchery says they can sex them at birth before they are shipped, says they have a 70% accuracy.... That's where I got my chicks. Only time will tell if they got it right! :)

That's really good to know. I'll be sure to research options for boys before I order jut in case. That would be really hard though because I know I'd get really attached. Too bad there's no way to hide a rooster lol!

I just ordered 15 BO"s from Purely Poultry..I'm so excited. I had Red Stars in the past and they were mean. I'm told that this breed is so sweet and friendly.

I see some of you have rings on your birds legs...Why?? Is that to identify the names?? Keep track? Where do you get those rings from??

rings, zip ties, metal bands with numbers, all aid in identification for what ever reason I choose, like date of birth can be right leg blue for 2013, left leg white for Purely Poultry, left leg black for a different hatchery.
I bought different colored zip ties from WalMart and dollar store, other kinds from the advertisers below like Burkey

I love the Buff orpingtons best of all my breeds they are sweet, friendly, very easy going my rooster is a buff orp & is so gentle he sits in my lap loves attention.

this is Sunny!

I use colored rubber bands can get assorted sizes for cheap at dollar store they fit on legs like a bracelet.
the hatchery can sex chicks very well just don't order straight run chicks cause you may get roos.
