I have a friend that would like to know if you can breed Buff Orpingtons and White Plymouth Rock, and what kind of rooster to get.
I said that I didn't think it would be a problem, as long as you're not trying to get something specific.
But, I thought it would be best to ask those who are exprienced with breeding their chickens.
Thanks so much for all your help and information.

They Breed.

I don't understand the part about "What kind of Rooster to get?". Isn't your friend planning to use a Buff Orpington Rooster over a White Plymouth Rock hen?...OR a White Plymouth Rock Rooster over a Buff Orpington Hen? What's with the "extra Rooster"?

Maybe I didn't read your question correctly. I'm somewhat confused by the question.

Sorry, I didn't explain more. I think what my friend is trying to figure out is which kind of rooster to get - either a White Plymouth Rock rooster OR a Buff Orpington Rooster = only one rooster for 6 hens - 3 buff orp and 3 white rock. It's still in the planning stages and I believe he's a newbie to chickens. He probably also wanted to know what the difference is between the chicks produced from a Buff Orpington Rooster over a White Plymouth Rock hen and a White Plymouth Rock Rooster over a Buff Orpington Hen.
Hope this helps to clarify.

From my experience- chicks tend to take after the mom in type. I LOVE Orps crosses. Either way- you'll end up with some pure chicks and some black patterned buff columbians. (like the color of a buff brahma)
