Thank you!

I have 3 BR hens...and they could be the loudest birds i've ever heard

! My rir girls aren't 1/6 th as loud as the BR when they lay

and they constintly mutter things amongest themselves

. Other then that, i agree that they are calm and loving birds.

I heard Buff Orps were recommended to urban chicken people - they're quite and calm, so I've been told. Getting my first chicks soon too....can't wait!

We have 5 BR's - one Roo who is not so friendly, but the 4 girls will come up, sit on our laps or shoulders and settle down, to be fussed over......... I currently have 13 BR, 12 Buff Orpington and 5 Lavender Orpington eggs in my incubator. Along with 7 silkie chicks in the stock tank and 1 Black Silkie Roo in the new henhouse! You just need to ensure you handle them daily and get them to eat treats from your hand, once they see you they will associate you with being a food source.

Also go to www.marthastewart.com looki in the archieves at last April's chicken show - you will be amazed.

Gavin.

We feed ours treats on a green picnic plate. We can start a parade around the yard just walking around with a green plate. And if the run is open when we come outside with a treat plate, its is amazing how fast they can get from the coop to the back door (when they dont have to rediscover where the door is).

That is incredibly funny!

And a very good idea, actually! Keeps you from getting jumped by a treat-loving mob of chickens everytime you step outside, hahaha!

I have BR which I love as well as SS. The SS are sweet and timid. They lay medium eggs that are a brown w/ a yellow tint. (I think that theirs.) Even though they are timid they are glad to be held.
Theirs were the eggs that didn't hatch under my broody EE Olivia. We think it's because they are too fast for Earl (BR roo) and he doesn't want to bother with that young stuff.
Have fun w/ your new babies... I want to see a pic of the dog and pig on your lap with a chick on their heads. Then you can send it in to "Country" mag and get a few bucks for feed

I will certainly put some pictures up! (as soon as I figure our how to post them and put them on my page, that is

) And it's too funny that you said that - I had just mentioned to my husband this morning that I should try and teach a few of the ladies to ride on the backs of my pig & pooch! And that we could send it in to America's Funniest Home Videos!

I'm going to have to look into some SS - everyone keeps mentioning how much of a delight they are to have!
