Buff Orpingtons- Too Docile?

Awwwwww...my Ideal Buff Orpingtons are not grumpy. One (Opal) is the friendliest bird I have. She's easy to pick up and pet, and she'll jump in my lap any chance she gets. The other one (Olivia) is more shy. She runs away from me and I hardly ever get a chance to pick her up. I think every chicken has it's own personality...doesn't matter what their breed is. I also have a very friendly Leghorn...and they are not known to be friendly at all.

My DH is ready to order more Orps from Ideal so we can get more of those awesome large brown eggs

My BO rooster is a fierce protector of his flock and a good leader. He has only flogged me twice for wearing toeless shoes and painted toes into his yard.

My BO hen went broody and was a good protective mother of 5. She is also pretty high in the pecking order.

i love my buffs.. they are so beautiful and nope they dont take any guff from anyone. now - they dont go out of their way to cause trouble... very laid back. no pushovers tho - our #1 hen is a buff and she can strut her stuff!

My BO roo was evil, nasty, rotten, and now he's gone - totally, I wouldn't wish him on anyone.

I have two henpecked hens, one's an EE, one's a BO. The worst hens in the yard for pecking are the Golden Laced Wyandottes, they are just brutal to the other hens. Second worst are the Barred Rocks.

I had 2 Buff Orpingtons, Salve and Stripey. Salve was the leader of the flock and Stripey was at the bottom-even the chicks could peck at her and she would not do anything.

My 12 BO are very docile....when they want to be but if the cat,Mo, ..(yes I said cat a full grown tomcat....) gets to annoying them they will chase him right out of the yard..no kidding it is the funnies thing to see all 12 BO chasing a tomcat out of there area LOL......

BUt when they wanna be friendly they are and when they wanna be left alone they let you know. Each one has her own personality.
For example: Charlotte..the biggest hen She will jump in your lap when she wants to whether or not you are ready, but if the dogs are in the yard she is the first to go after them until they are in the house lol ....
Perchy....will jump on your lap and climb up your arm to sit on your shoulder or neck or head LOL...
Crystal..our lightest colored hen is very stand off ish but have something to eat and they all come running for a nibble.....

So they are very docile but can stand up for themselves...

Mine are standoffish--they have no interest in humans whatsoever other than as providers of feed, and even that interest is limited.

Not a breed I will get again. There are lots of birds with far more interesting personalities. Docile, yes--to the point of perpetually boring.
