mahsmaj, is Blondie a he or a she? If a she, I wish you were closer so I could give you a nice BO cockerel for her.

well , if you have roosters , you would need at least 10 chickens PER rooster , or that rooster will be having a field day with 2 hens .

Your eggs would be totally over fertilized BIG TIME with 1 rooster and 2 hens .

I have 4 roosters , BUT I have 38 hens .

1 roosters will be KING of that flock ...

I just got into this chicken business recently myself with the intention of raising rir's. But once I saw those buff orpingtons I did an about face and glad I did. Nothing against rir, but these babies are so gorgeous and friendly.

Hey, blue fire, I was thinking about using some of those plastic things from the Dollar General for nesting boxes, too! So I see they work very well indeed.

I haven't heard much noise from my BO. The roo isn't even crowing yet but the EE in the coop with them certainly does his share.
Last night when we let all 67 chicks out of the coop for the first time most of the BO's came over and hoped up in the lunge chair with me. They are beautiful and friendly birds! I wouldn't trade them for anything.........okay maybe a million dollars. Then I could buy lots more!

We have one buff amongst our five chicks and she is friendly and loves to be held. SHe tries to fly and her tail is getting longer everyday! Her name is Buffy.

My BO cockerel is Buffy too. He was supposed to be a she, so now Buffy is our nick for Sir Buffington. He's 15 - 16 weeks old (can't remember) and has only been crowing for a few weeks. Still sounds like a hoarse rooster.
