Buff Orpingturkey

We've introduced a rooster to our flock (after quarantine). He's doing pretty well, but the Buff Orp and White Leghorn girls seem to hate him. They'll rush up when he's mating another hen and peck at him.

Buffy puffs up and puts her wings down when he's near. She looks like a small, blond tom turkey.

Did you have a roo with them before? Sounds like they don't want him to be the alpha chicken.

Nope, first time with a roo. It was Husband's idea.

I was happy with hennies, but we'll see how it all shakes down.

I love the turkey strut in a chicken though!

I got rid off all the red star roosters and put atwo maran roos and maran hens in with the b16 redstars, It was a week at least before they would have anything to do with the roos, and a couple more before the hens were allowed to eat and drink at the same time.

Chickens are so funny. Even after having them nine months, they still crack me up endlessly!
