Buff Rock - Rooster or Hen?

I'm having a hard time finding out what gender my buff rock is, I have white rocks and barred the same age 4months and it's clear as day what ones are hens what ones are roosters. but with the buffs I can't tell!! what can I look for ?? the only thing Iv noticesed is one has a few dark spots on main tale feathers. besides that no crown. I ordered from mm hatchery and got a rooster of every breed could there not be a rooster. I ended up with two extra barred roosters as mistakes happen just thought it only happened with roosters passing as hens.
