Buffalo gnats: how do you treat them organic

I've heard you can treat them with vanilla but how?

you spray vanilla on yourself! not on the gnats. DH just bought something called Buggins Natrual insect repellant... it is vanilla/mint and rose. He fishes and mows, and is outside a lot and the gnats drive him nuts! This seems to work pretty well!! I think he got it at ace hardware. I found this info on it.. don't know where else you can get it.
