I was cleaning out my 8 week old pullets' coop and I noticed some blood in one of the nesting boxes. I went to check out the situation and there was a little bug on the blood that must have been pooped out. That being said, can I prevent from having my pullets or pullet pooping out blood and is it normal? Also, is having a little fly like bug I the poop bad?

Blood of any type in poop is not normal. However, redness caused by eating berries, or other types of food can happen. I suppose if the pullet ate a lizard there could be some blood involved in the "end" I doubt the fly-like bug came with the poop unless the pullet ate it and it didn't digest. It certainly shouldn't have come out alive. Is it possible that blood got in/on the poop? Check your pullets out closely. What's the consistency of the poop? Keep an eye out on if it continues and which of your pullets is dropping the red poop. Sick chickens can go downhill fast so watch their behavior and poop closely. Have your pullets been vaccinated? Good luck and I hope more "expert" type people help you out. I'm a beginner myself.

Well it didn't look fresh and right now I'm out of town (good timing huh

) what kind of insects are bad for chickens? And yeas I know it didn't just poop out the bug alive. I was saying that there was a bug in it at the town possibly laying eggs in it.

Sometimes a bit of tissue is expelled in a poop, completely normal unless it is an excessive amount of happens frequently.

A pic of the bug and the bloody poop would help would be of great help in diagnosing whether you have a problem or not.

Where there is poop, there's is usually some insects.
