I was thinking about buying a bug zapper to try and control the mosquitos for the summer time this year and was wondering if chickens will eat the dead bugs. Or is this going to be more bad then good I wanted to put it at the end of the run or should I just leave it at the other end of the yard to attract the bugs away from the coop.?

I had the same idea couple years ago and never followed through. So I'm bumping to see if someone else will respond.

Our chickens run to the zapper every morning and eat all the bugs in the pile underneath it, as soon as the run door is opened. Some years we have one right over the run. We always have one somewhere else on the property. My Faverolles always seem to like to eat the mosquitoes right out of the air, too. More so than the other breeds, for some reason.

I sure WISH I had power to my chicken pen! I have an extension cord running out there to it.

Every time I have to mow I have to move it so I can mow.
