Bugs in new bag of crumble

Just opened a new bag of Organic crumble bought the day before yesterday. Top looks like it has crumble dust, lots of small dead black bugs and I saw two live ones crawling around ( eating I’m sure). Is it safe for my 3 month old hens? Do I need to return this bag? They eat bugs anyway in the run, but those are alive/ fresh (not decaying). Will dead bugs start the growth of some harmful bacteria? Should I return it?
I too have bought a bag of Purina crumbles from Tractor Supply. I returned it and opened the next bag at the store but not until I got it home did I see more in the second bag. I will be calling Purina to chat.

I had the same problem too. Bought two bags, opened one up when I got home and it was full of dust and grain mites! I returned them to the store and the manager frowned and said it wasn't the first time they had this issue with the same manufacturer. So it was probably not their fault. He opened up a new bag from a different batch - that was ok but I got another brand instead as I didn't want the same thing happening again - it's a waste of time and effort to have to return it to the store.

I had bought old dated batches of feed (more than 6 months old from DOM) that hasn't any issues so I reckon it might just come down to how the feed was stored and the manufacturer. Some people argue that when it gets more than 6 months old the minerals and vitamins will have started degrading but I haven't had any issues so far... I do ferment my feed though and give my chooks 50% of that in their diet.
