Hi! I have a seen hundreds of small black bugs jumping around in the hemp bedding of the coop. They are pretty quick and I was not able to squish one and get a better look. I emptied the coop of bedding twice within the last week and within a day of replacing bedding they are back. I have lime and DE mixed in with bedding and under the trays. I am reluctant to use pesticides because my children and their friends play in the small yard too. I am concerned they are fleas but I don't know why they would congregate in the hemp bedding. If I can get a picture I will update the post with the picture. For now, I was just wondering if anyone has experience with this? Thank you for any help you can give.

wingless arthropods known for their ability to jump using a specialized appendage called a furcula. They are often found in damp environments and are generally harmless to humans, though they can become a nuisance when they appear in large numbers.

Thank you for your answer. I will try to get a better look. I wasn't able to get a good enough photo to post today. I ended up sprinkling permethrin garden dust in the coop floor. I really didn't want to but I also don't want an infestation to get ahead of me. I hope that you are right and they are harmless springtails.
