Hello, not new to BYC but finally signed up as member. I'm from a 3 sons, 1 husband household. We've had chickens continuously for the last 15 years. Fife, WA is historically an agricultural city, so we have limited ordinances against backyard chickens OR roosters. Our cats have ALWAYS loved the ladies and it seems like sometimes they just want to be part of the flock. Our first coop is end of life and just not functioning the way we need. It was designed for about 4 ladies and to be moved around the yard for fresh grass and "free" fertilizing benefits. The kids ALWAYS hated the moving around the yard concept because the poop patch to avoid was always changing. We finally put the coop in a more permanent location and attached a really lame run. During the winter, we often let them roam the yard which ends up including the neighbor's yard and the neighbor's neighbor's yard where there is a regular supply of cat food for the strays and bird food for the...birds and squirrels. We draw the line when the chickens try to cross the road, I mean duh. We don't need to be the joke of the neighborhood. I found a coop design I love and have messaged the poster asking for a supplies list, even if it's just rough estimates. Even before Covid-19 my household was re-filled with a college graduate and a "re-thinker of the for profit technical college I thought I wanted to get a degree from". So with able bodied 23, 19 and 16 year olds at home maxing our internet connection, it's a perfect time to get an outdoor project going. Here's my indoor gang:

Great pictures, handsome family! Welcome to BYC. Good luck with the building project. I’m sure there are plenty of coop designs somewhere in these pages that you could find helpful. My spouse can build anything so we just designed and built from scratch after a lot of research so we could have the perfect coop.
