hello..
I did a little intro in the intro section so now I can post here eh?

Ok ..so we are planning on 4 chickens.. breed yet to be determined.. prolly banthams .
Husband was nice enough to start building me a house and run for the babes. Its just not finished yet. Sides have to go in .. nesting boxes , and all the other stuff. So far I think he did a wonderful job. These chickens will be free roamiog after they grow up so the place isnt as big as some of ya`lls. But its around 8 feet long and about 4 feet wide, not incuding the house. I also going to paintr the ouside to keep it from warping etc since its OSB board. Killz and outside latex paint will work tho and keep it looking neat for years. I am also adding some flower boxes and some pavers maybe around it to make it look nicer.
Like I said this is just the beginning for it.
Anyone have suggestions please feel free to add to this. I am allways open f for some good ideas.
and dont mind the dog in the picture..Thats Lilly and she aproves of the chicken home

RE: the OSB board

REALLY, REALLY seal it before you finish.

I have to replace a door in my barn this year, because 3 years ago I made the door out of OSB. It has a bad habit of soaking up water and humidity, and MINE is now falling apart.I just painted mine.

Nice building job---wish somebody besides me would do the labor at MY house!!

I agree great job. Make sure you seal that board not only for moisture but for smell. I made my brooder out of that board and didnt seal it...it lasted 2 weeks before the smell was stuck into the walls! Also think of getting some linolium (sp?). It makes cleaning out the coop soooooo much easier. I even put it up 3 feet on my walls and doubled it up under the roosts!

I love the dog too. She will love watching chicken TV with you!

Thank you all for the good words

As far as sealing is concerned. It is OSB and we found some thing in the garage that will work really good. Its my husbands can of bedliner .I rolled it on.. and it swells a little and it seals like everything up.And after that I will paint it a different color on top. It works great on truck beds.. why not on OSB..lol

We did alot of work on it today still. .got the feeders hung, the nesting boxing are finished. The ramp is done now. And only thing is left to do is the door and some artwork for the outside.( cant have a bleak house ..;p.. maybe a few flowers etc will do just fine. The top lifts off for easy access if I ever get any eggs.. They have 5 nesting boxes for now and I am hoping thast enough.Maybe I will add a few more perches for them.

And atfre that i will look for some babes.. I just cant decide on really young ones or older ones. I bought a heater lamp just in case I find some babies. And I got a bag of baby feed.So I think I am set.. Unless I am forgetting something yet. ?.

Sorry the update is in the dark.. by the time we got done with it it was allmost 9 pm and we are pooped.

Husband can only go so fast ..He is still recovering from a Helicopter crash from last year. He hung in there to make me this coop and I cant thank him enough for it

Other than that I think it turned out just the way I wanted it. Let me know if there is anything else.
Now I just have to think what breed I want..ohh the choices..

Are you putting wire on the bottom of run so preditors will not dig under ?

Very cute coop your lucky to have a DH to build it so nice 1

Has your dog ever been around chickens before ? If not will need supervision around chickens.

Enjoy !
