Hello everyone!
My husband, Cecil and I are just in the process of building our coop. The town we live in just changed the bylaw to allow for backyard or urban hens as they call them.
We can only have 3 and no roosters - a few rules around where to put the coop, however we have a big enough backyard that it's not going to bother the neighbours (I hope!).
I've been researching keeping chickens and will need some help so I'll probably be asking all kinds of questions from all you experts!
I'm especially looking for winter information and how to maintain them. I have to keep them clean so I don't think I can use the deep litter method because of the smell...
Well gotta go look around the site - looking forward to meeting some new friends!
thanks
Teresa

I usually don't recommend the feed-store coops because they can be flimsy, but in your case it might be of help. Take a good close look at one, make some adjustments, and voila! Cute chicken coop plans.

You will probably want a chicken tractor so that your grass can grow back. Also take a good look at pull-out poop trays.

We are building our own. We did check out the prefab ones however did read a lot of bad and not so good reviews.
Definitely making sure he puts in the poop tray!
Thanks so much.. .
