I am thinking of separating all of my broody hens when they start setting, I am curious as to what would be the simplest/cheapest way to create some small pens for them to raise their chicks in after they hatch? I have been looking at hardware cloth and making several spaces that are connected.... Thoughts???
here for the ideas
I've thought about getting some simple rabbit cages, but they can be expensive. A month ago I used a medium sized dog kenneling cage, filled a medium-dog carrier with shavings, and placed her in there. She's got four chicks running around in there now, they sleep in the carrier at night, travel the cage during the day. But I think the cost of the carrier and cage (which I usually use to introduce new chickens) is about the same as a rabbit hutch :/
