The other thing you can do if you want to plant two different types of corn is to pick varieties that have a different number of days until harvest. I think they're supposed to be two weeks apart. That way they bloom and pollinate at different times. You can also plant one variety a little later, too, but that's a little tricky, because corn that's planted later grows faster, because it's warmer, so it catches up a bit.
