Hey all,

I'm Sousanne from Michigan and we are working on purchasing 4 chickens soon. Our kids are very excited to own their very own chickens.

Our coop is almost complete, just have a few questions for yaz! For those of you with a coop, would it be a good idea to place a vinyl type cover on the chicken house floor for easy cleaning? Have any of you left it alone and just cleaned the plywood? I need cleaning tips so I can prepare myself ahead if time lol. How often do you clean your coop?
Thanks for reading!

! Pleased you joined us! Coop floors range far and wide - some go to their local carpet store and by a vinyl remnant for cheap for the coop floor - makes for easier clean. Others use plywood and straw or pine shavings - the advantage here is that you don't have to clean the coop as often. So, as I say...opinions go both ways. Good luck to you in your research - visit the Coop & Run forum link below!

Welcome from Michigan! I use pine shavings over the vinyl and clean it once a month. I have a flock of 4 in the coop now (2 more will be going in once they can play with the big kids). They are only in at night since they free range during the day. Oh, and don't forget to check out the Michigan thread.

Thanks for the tips! Where do I find the Michigan thread here???

You can find it under the "where am I where are you" forum. I lurk mostly since I am still learning but lots of great people.
