I am a beginner about to build my first chicken coop. I want to build it against my outside garage wall so I can use an existing outlet there to keep the hens warm. But I notice no one else seems to build against existing walls. Is there a problem with doing that?

I built behind my garage - for the specific reason that I wanted to pirate the electricity, too. Not up against the wall, although I don't see any problems with doing that. Make sure that you have a gutter/water plan for run-off from the garage roof...

Do a search in the blue bar above. There are other coops built against buildings out there....

good luck!

Have you looked at some of the blogs about designs? I found it very helpful. As for power I just ran an extension cord.
