We are building a duck house this weekend. Some do's and don'ts of building a duck would house be appreciated.
Is a duck's house similar to a chicken coop but on a smaller scale? We have 3 ducks, 2 Mallards and 1 Pekin. In our coop we used FRP for the floors and walls...would that also be good for a duck house? If not what what is good for the floor and walls? Also should their front door be a door that opens outwards or a ramp that folds down, like the chicken's little door.
Is 1 window enough? So any info you could give us would be appreciated.

I don't know what FRP is? anyways, good venting, ease of cleaning and predator proof all key factors. In my experience ducks like to step in vs ramps and other more complicated methods that chickens tend to handle with ease.

I try to offer as many windows as possible, not only for venting but light. Amiga has given you some great links so hopefully they will be of help.

FRP is fiber glass reinforced plastic. This pic was taken when we were building the coop 2 years ago- on the walls it was put 3/4 the way up .It makes wall and floor clean-up easy in the morning, I just wipe it down with a paper towel and vinegar.
So I am thinking that maybe this is the way to go for the ducks.
Also what about the winter weather....do the ducks fair as good as the chicken's do.

It depends on the ducks, in my experience. I keep mine above 40F or so, or they don't truly thrive.

You're over thinking it. It can be more of a hutch if you want. It's mostly gonna be for protection from predators. Ducks can actually handle temps down around 0. They just need a wind break. Heat should also be kept in mind. Vents should be put in to keep it cool and clean in the summer

What an elegant set-up! The only thing it's missing is artwork on the walls, lol

Seriously, that looks really nice.

Thanks! I hope my ducks house comes out just as good as my coop did. DH started building it yesterday.
